"Fragile Lives", Columbus Dispatch, 1995 - Michael J. Berens

In 1995, The Columbus Dispatch told the first part of Lauren's story in an article titled "Fragile Lives", authored by Michael J. Berens. The story detailed the grueling battle that existed in an attempt to keep Lauren at home. Twenty eight years, and three facilities later, Lauren has amassed 16 Major Unusual Incidents. She has suffered repeatedly and the MUI's are simply the tip of the iceberg.

And the family NEVER WANTED HER IN A FACILITY. It was a decision for which there was no practical alternative. The past twenty eight years have been pure hell for her and for her family.

Here is her story from the time. It developed into a four day series as Mr. Berens learned more and more about the details of the fight. Twenty eight years later and it still brings tears.
